I know that there are quite a few factors that are going to affect the ultimate cost of a website. These factors include how many pages you are going to have, if you will sell products on your website, the graphic work involved, and how interactive your future website will be.  So do I need a web developer or a web designer?  Other factors are building and maintaining the website. However, a lot of people who create a site from start to finish -- designing graphics and webpages, figuring out the site map, then producing the site -- call themselves Web developers, so it's a confusing term.

One of the hard thing to do is building a site from scratch.I am info tech grad so i have idea on how much would it cost in each development. It really need more time for script etc but when you surf the web there are lots of free site wherein you can use  create your own website in just a minute.

Having a website not an easy task. There are 3 basic steps to follow.
1. Domain name registration
2. Web designing
3. Web hosting.

Everyone should follow above 3 steps. But you need to maintain and market your site. It is a very complex task.

I would agree with Kevin's 3 basic step, but of course the very hard to do here is to identify whom you trust with you site? If you knew someone who can do the 3 thing then that i guess is much better, but if not, you have to check first their credibility and their sample of works...don't forget also to ask for a referral list...meaning their existing clients who can attest the quality of their works....
