That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I got an useful answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could answer your Medifast question..

You can google it and you can find out about what happens biologically. I can tell you when I dump even five years out that I get really thirsty, start to sweat, get really really nauseous from sweets and anything with high fat content including milk that has more than 1% cream is completely out for me :o).

It is different for everyone, but you WILL know it when it happens!..

Here is my favorite explanation of dumping..

What Causes Dumping Syndrome?.

Normally, Medifast food that enters the stomach remains there for some period of time and is broken down, or digested, before being passed into the small intestine where nutrients are then absorbed into the bloodstream..

On the stomach often results in the removal or restricted functioning of this controlled entry and exit of Medifast food through the stomach. Without this control, partially or fully undigested Medifast food moves rapidly, or is "dumped," into the small intestine..

The undigested Medifast food draws water from the body directly into the intestine to continue the digestive process. This rush of fluid from the body is the main cause of symptoms related to dumping syndrome..

Types of Dumping Syndrome.

There are two types of dumping syndrome - quick onset and late onset. With quick onset, the symptoms appear very soon after eating; typically within 15 minutes. With late onset, symptoms occur from one to 3 hours after eating. People can experience one or both types (or neither, of course)..

Symptoms of Dumping Syndrome.

The symptoms of dumping syndrome are also as varied as the population. People can experience no symptoms at all, some symptoms, or all of them. The extent of the symptoms also varies widely, from mild discomfort to incapacitating..

I had my bypass in 2000, and there's still so much I don't know. However, now I know more about dumping and have an explanation for some of those odd symptoms that I never realized were related to dumping, since it had been so long since I ate..

This is a very good explanation. Thank you!..

For me it is anyting with sugar. I get deathly sick almost to the point of being incapacitated. It is not a pleasant experience and you generally only go through it once and realize that it is not worth not following your diet!!!!.

Just eat as you are told by your treatment team and you will not have to experience this!! All of us think it won't happen to us but I am here to tell you that if you eat fats or sugar, it will probably happen to you...

I gather not all preop education is the same????..

Not sure if it's all the same, or if we dont all pay attention the same. I know with me I half listened to somethings and really paid attention to others. Dumping is one that I listened to.. but it seemed I had so many questions about everything else, and it's one of those things you dont fully get it till you have had the.

Then your like omg what have I done.. I really should have paid more attention and then You learn!..
