That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I bump into an useful answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could answer your Medifast question..

Welcome! First question: Is it true that with a panniculectomy, they also lift the area below that?.
Welcome Sheila!!! I'm sure you'll fit in with the group, glad to have another "seasoned professional" amongst us!!! :).
Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments and the welcome. Will try to answer some questions. Wish was able to reply to specific ones individually but here goes..
As far as plastic.
Goes I have only had the panniculectomy/mons lift (Joanne the mons lift is a seperate procedure but is usually done when you have a large apron) and I cannot stress enough to document any and all issues you've had because of the skin folds or hanging skin, etc. I know this sounds yucky but measure how long your apron hangs down and if the mons area is a problem measure that also. Get letters from doctors documenting anything they have prescribed to treat those issues and also having them say they feel it is a medically necessary.
For both physical and mental reasons. Don't give up. If they turn you down appeal it. I was very fortunate to have it approved in a weeks time which still shocks me. I have Tricare Prime insurance. If you have that as a primary or as a secondary it will likely be approved with good documentation.
I had complications with my.
Because I am at high risk for blood clots and I'm not sure I should discuss that as I don't want to deter anyone from pursuing it. Mine was a rare case and most will not have the problem I did. My surgeon said I was her first to have the issue I did. If you want to know about it just let me know. I had some minor surgeries related to the panniculectomy because it turned out I was allergic to the sutures they used and after 5 mos they were coming to the surface and causing issues. She did some minor procedures and we got them out and I'm fine.
Joanne if you have more questions about the lower area just let me know. I"m happy to help. I'm sure there is lots more I could tell so if you have more questions please ask here or message me. So happy I found you guys ;).
